Policy Research Associates, Inc. (PRA) is seeking to fill a temporary, part-time Intern position to assist with various research and evaluation projects for Summer 2024. The Intern will report to the Vice President of Research & Evaluation and will be provided opportunities to learn and contribute to various research and evaluation projects. High-level supervision and mentorship from project staff are provided for research and evaluation internships. 

Research & Evaluation program area staff conduct program assessments, evaluation studies, and qualitative and quantitative data analysis on projects across the areas of topical expertise at Policy Research. Current projects are focused on cross-system responses to justice-involved individuals with behavioral health issues, adolescent social change and mental health, and pretrial risk communication. The ideal candidate should be proficient in adolescent development, behavioral health, and social change strategies (e.g., activism, advocacy, and civic engagement). Research & Evaluation Intern tasks will include literature reviews, data cleaning, longitudinal quantitative data analysis, thematic analysis, manuscript preparation, assistance with the peer review process, virtual meeting technology, and overall project support. 

Requirements  

  • Doctoral level student in a related degree program (e.g., psychology, social work, human development, public health, or associated field) preferred; Masters level required. 
  • Some experience, knowledge, or significant interest in behavioral health issues, with specific knowledge of topics related to the desired internship placement, such as adolescent development and youth well-being. 
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work within timelines. 
  • Excellent data analysis and writing skills. 

Position is a part-time, with competitive hourly range ($25.00-$30.00). This position is remote, subject to PRA’s remote employee/telework policy. The normal work week is Monday through Friday. The successful candidate will focus on optimizing, streamlining, and editing a resource library and building a resource bibliography. The internship will also include writing website and social media content.

Description of the Position

The successful candidate will support the communications team through the optimization of a public resource library and writing new website, newsletter, and social media content. This individual will have the opportunity to work across PRA projects in a variety of communications and marketing capacities, primarily writing and optimizing content and using AI to enhance blog, website, and social media workflows. This position reports to the Communications Director and will collaborate with communications specialists, project staff, and the IT Director. Responsibilities will include:

  • Optimizing and condensing content published to the PRA resource library
  • Creating resource citations using APA style
  • Writing new content for the PRA website
  • Writing newsletter, social media, and blog content
  • Using AI to speed up workflows

Desired Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in progress
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office products, especially Microsoft Word, SharePoint, and Excel
  • Experience using website content management systems, especially WordPress
  • Strong editing and writing skills, including a strong understanding of grammar and syntax, plain writing, and active voice
  • Experience using AI, especially ChatGPT
  • Familiarity with APA and Chicago style
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and creativity

Located on-site at PRA’s offices in Troy, New York, or depending on the circumstances of the successful candidate, this position may be based remotely, subject to PRA’s remote employee/telework policy. Successful Bookkeeper candidates will work on a consulting basis with a small accounting team. JAMIS Prime accounting/government contracting software experience is required. The primary responsibilities may include entering vendor invoices, producing customer bills, reconciling accounts, and other special accounting projects.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one year experience, two years preferred;
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices and administrative procedures;
  • Computer proficiency in JAMIS Prime accounting/government contracting software and Microsoft applications with strong working knowledge of Excel a must;
  • High school diploma required; Associate degree in an Accounting or relevant degree program preferred;
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work within timelines; and
  • Excellent communication skills.
