Young adults (aged 18-25) have the highest prevalence of serious mental illness compared to adults aged 26-49 and aged 50 and older. This two-page infographic, developed by the Program to Achieve Wellness, is a resource for medical, mental health, and substance use providers that outlines the importance of addressing serious mental illness in youth and young adults, providing data on the prevalence of menta health conditions, substance use disorders, and co-occurring disorders among this population. The infographic provides 6 clear action steps providers can take to better support youth and young adults with mental health conditions, like engaging youth and youth adults as decision-makers in their own treatment plans, and being culturally responsive to the unique needs of youth and young adults being served.
