The February 2020 edition of the Policy Research Associates’ monthly newsletter included announcements, publications, and the latest posts from the PRA blog.

This newsletter contains two impact reports that highlight the efforts and outreach of PRA; the first from quarter 4 of 2019 and the second encompassing all of 2019. These reports take a quantitative look at the trainings, events, projects, and other fee-for-service activities completed by PRA and its projects. Also included are qualitative summarizations of policy and practice influence. Both publications are available for free download.

A new brief published by Policy Research, Inc.’s (PRI) Senior Project Associate Ashley Krider examines behavioral health strategies in jails and prisons. Corrections facilities are often misused and lack comprehensive behavioral health strategies for justice-involved individuals with behavioral health issues. This report details the challenges, successes, and strategies of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation’s (MacArthur Foundation) Safety and Justice challenge over the past 5 years. The MacArthur Foundation engaged PRI to provide intensive technical assistance to selected sites on issues related to the over-incarceration of individuals with mental illness and/or substance use disorders.

Also included in this issue is an overview of the SOAR Leadership Academy. During the 3-day Leadership Academy, attendees review SOAR fundamentals, learn how to create a SOAR steering committee and support quality SOAR-assisted disability benefit applications, and develop implementation plans to sustain their SOAR initiative.
