Karli J. Keator, MPH
Karli J. Keator, M.P.H. is Director of the National Center for Youth Opportunity and Justice and Vice President at Policy Research Associates. Since joining PRA in 2006, Ms. Keator has participated in a number of research and implementation support initiatives that aim to improve life opportunities for youth. She collaborates with practitioners, policy-makers, and researchers to inform policy and build capacity among youth-serving systems to:
- identify and respond to the behavioral needs of children and adolescents at risk of or in contact with the youth justice system
- reduce behavioral health care disparities among children and adolescents, in particular American Indian youth
- increase access to and availability of effective and appropriate behavioral health services and supports
Currently, Ms. Keator is leading the NCYOJ’s efforts to increase the competencies among the juvenile justice workforce to more effectively respond to the needs of high-risk youth, to add to the knowledge base of what interventions are most appropriate and effective when working with youth with behavioral health and trauma needs in community-based settings, and, to address policy barriers related to implementing best practice of behavioral health and trauma interventions within the justice system.
Ms. Keator received her Master of Public Health from the University at Albany’s School of Public Health.
