PRA develops, plans, and facilitates meetings and conferences ranging from small, 1-day workshops to large national conferences. Our staff will:
- secure meeting space
- develop the agenda
- recruit presenters
- prepare meeting materials
- coordinate travel and lodging arrangements
- and provide on-site facilitation and technical assistance during the events
PRA has planned and conducted hundreds of national and regional events for over 1000 participants. A sample of these include:
- Annual national conferences for the Health Care for the Homeless program1
- Policy Academies to assist over 20 State and county jurisdictions to improve services to justice-involved youth with mental health needs
- Strategic planning forums for States and communities that want to expedite access to Social Security disability benefits for people who have mental illnesses or co-occurring disorders
- More than 25 national and regional meetings for the CMHS National GAINS Center, including a biannual national conference
- More than 50 meetings under the auspices of the National Resource Center on Homelessness and Mental Illness
In addition to national and regional meetings, PRA plans and conducts training institutes for specific groups, such as administrators of programs working with homeless people who have co-occurring disorders, and policymakers interested in reaching consensus on best practices.
PRA is also partnering in two overarching efforts designed to help practitioners, researchers, and policymakers prevent and end homelessness by:
- Coordinating a series of Policy Academies sponsored by the U.S. departments of Health and Human Services, Housing and Urban Development, and Labor and the Veterans Administration to help State and local policymakers improve access to mainstream services for individuals and families who are homeless
- Developing and coordinating a national meeting to assess the status of research and policy on homelessness. This is the second symposium on homelessness research. The first, held in 1998, was coordinated by PRA and resulted in the widely used monograph, Practical Lessons, published jointly by HHS and HUD
