Guidelines for Selecting (and Agreeing To Be) Trainers
Optimally, trainers…
- Have at least a fundamental understanding of SSI/SSDI
- Have experience working in mental health, homelessness, and/or SSI/SSDI
- Have prior successful training experience, including day-long or longer trainings
- Can use the Stepping Stones to Recovery curriculum model and are comfortable with it
- View this training as a key component of his/her work and have his/her agency’s authorization to devote time to this effort
- Are capable of maintaining fidelity to written curriculum while incorporating their own style
It is also helpful if trainers…
- Are open to suggestions and new approaches
- Want to learn more and see this as an opportunity
- Are engaging and comfortable with others
- Understand how adults learn and can adapt to this
- Have a sense of humor
- Are experienced with SSI/SSDI
- Are passionate about helping homeless adults access income, resources and services
- Are able to co-train or team with another trainer
